    BRIEF: With the demand for urban real estate soaring through the roof literally many architects are building slimmed-down structures to create residences in cities with limited land availability. Rail-thin lots that might have been left undeveloped get outfitted with tiny homes. Empty buildings are transformed into living spaces through adaptive reuse. Tiny houses in the city explores inventive responses to diminishing city space, presenting a case for smart storage solutions, modular living, and generally thoughtful design that makes less square footage more stylish than ever.

     

    The tiny house movement is taking the housing market by storm, with small homes appearing all over rural and urban areas across the world. They are an affordable and eco-conscious solution to the narrowing housing supply and can offer mobility to an increasing population of young professionals.

    AREA PROGRAM:

    Home – Sweet home! Yes it is intimate to all of us. Further on its everyday function as a physical shelter for us and our regular activities, it connects us on a personal and emotional level. When we look at the modern day scenario of environmental and financial concerns along with the desire to have more freedom, has led us to follow simpler and efficient ways of living. No matter how big or small, it’s human nature to want to exceed.

    DESIGN :

    • The house should be designed by utilising the total volume as efficiently as possible, Where it should comprise of at least living area, sleeping area, work area, kitchen area and toilet.

    • The house should be portable and the construction system should comprise of parts and Joineries which can be assembled and disassembled.(For inspiration you can check IKEA’s products) • The volume of the house should not exceed 21.9m3 and a footprint of 7.84 m2.

    • The design of the house could be modular in nature, keeping in mind future use of tiny House for e.g. mass housing, housing for migrants, EWS housing etc. DESIGN CRITERIA: It must not have more than three materials for construction. Participants must suggest at least three options for interior spaces (colours, materials, etc). REGISTRATION:

    •This is a free competition and hence no registration fee will be charged.

    •One can participate only as an individual and not in groups.

    SCHEDULE: Registration ends: 30th December, 2018. Deadline for Questions: 31st January, 2018. Closing day for Submissions: 28th February, 2019. Announcement of Winners: 30th March, 2019.

    AWARDS: Winning participants will receive prizes worth INR 15,000/- with the distribution as Follows: First prize: INR 10,000/- + Certificate Second prize: INR 3,000/- + Certificate Third prize: INR 2,000/- + Certificate Honourable mentions will be given to Top 10 short listed entries. Winners and honourable mentions will be published on SSIU & Adhigam’s website and Several international architecture magazines and websites partnered by us.

    REGULATIONS:

    • Participant teams will be disqualified if any of the competition rules or submission Requirements are not considered. Participation assumes acceptance of the regulations.

    • Team code is the only means of identification of a team as it is an anonymous Competition.

    • The official language of the competition is English.

    • Contacting the Jury is prohibited.

    • Adhigam as the competition organizer, reserves the right to modify the competition Schedule if deemed necessary. EVALUATION CRITERIA: Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

    • Innovative play of volumes.

    • Aesthetics and originality.

    • Intelligent and appropriate use of all design principles.

    • Clarity and comprehensibility of the design.

    • Movement and activity within the Tiny House.

    • Sustainability and functionality.

    • Factor of Portability and Ease of construction.

    SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

    Your proposal must be presented on a single landscape oriented A1 sheet using any techniques of your own choice (sketches, diagrams, 3D visualizations, model photos, CAD drawings, etc.).

    Your team code must be mentioned in the top right-hand corner of your sheet. Your sheet must not include ANY information that may give away your identity.

    Do NOT include your name on the sheet, display only the team code.

    All text must be in English, with a maximum of 250 words for project explanation on the A1 sheet.

    Format: A single folder named as your team code containing the following files must be Submitted via email to [email protected] (team code being the subject of the email) within the deadline of 28th February,2019. High-resolution PDF containing the A1 sheet for your project.

    THE MAXIMUM FILE SIZE IS 20 MB FOR THIS FILE. THE NAME OF THE FILE YOU SHALL USE IS: TeamCode.pdf Low-resolution illustration (main render/ graphic) of your project. This file may be used for our web page and promotional purposes.

    THE FILE FORMAT MUST BE A JPEG, WITH 100 DPI RESOLUTIONS. THE MAXIMUM FILE SIZE IS 5 MB FOR THIS FILE. THE NAME OF THE FILE YOU SHALL USE IS: TeamCode.jpeg

    COMPETITION PROJECT DISCLAMER This is an open international competition hosted by SSIU to generate progressive design ideas. There are no plans for the TINY HOUSE to be built. The competition is organized for education purpose only.
